Umbrella cockatoos originating from the North Moluccas of Indonesia.

This beautiful, large, graceful cockatoo is currently listed as CITES Appendix 11.

It has previously been trapped to a great extent for the pet trade.

They are gentle cockatoos but can also be extremely noisy and destructive.

Hand reared birds are often bought as pets, but unfortunately sold on all too quickly, as many cannot cope with the noise and mess.

Adult birds are difficult to pair and the males (as with all cockatoos) can also be extremely aggressive resulting at times, in the untimely death of the female during the breeding period.

Not a bird for the beginner.

There is a possibility that this cockatoo will in the not too distant future be uplisted to CITES Appendix 1.
