The Beautifully coloured Sun Conure originates from South America.

They are very lively parrots and need spacious quarters. They are also very sociable and can live and breed quite happily together on a colony system. As seen above, photographed at Jurong Bird Park Singapore, and below at Palmitos Park Gran Canaria.

They do make nice, if not sometimes noisy pets. They are extremely affectionate.

They require a good varied diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables a must.

As they are active, lively parrots they should be given freedom to fly and exercise. Kept caged for long periods of time they become bored, depressed and overweight.

Sun Conures do not acquire their full orange feathering for quite some months right up to the first full moult. Youngsters have lots of green feathering and can look to the inexperienced eye as Jendaya Conures.

Parent reared youngsters do tame down to make wonderful pets fairly easily. They do not need to be hand reared.
